Eye Imperfections
Changes in the area of the eye can become noticeable as early as the late 20's and early 30's with the appearance of fine lines, and can continue to increase as one ages. The most noticeable cosmetic imperfections in this area are somewhat universal, but of course, will vary with each individual.
- Fine lines underneath the eye
- Hooding, or the migration of thinning skin on the upper eye lid downward toward the eyelashes
- Dark circles
- Puffiness underneath the eye
- Eyes become more closed
- Eyebrows trend downward
- Presence of a hollow look beneath the eye
- Thinning eyelashes
The natural aging process contributes to these conditions as skin becomes thinner, due to less collagen, and therefore more translucent. Excessive sun exposure is also a core factor in the development of many of the conditions listed above, either directly or indirectly. Additional factors suggested as instrumental in the appearance of dark circles under the eye include heredity, and the use of certain medications.
Treatments for Eye Imperfections
In the past, surgical intervention was considered to be the only way to correct cosmetic conditions of the eye, and restore a youthful look to the area. Today’s advances in aesthetic technologies provide methods of correcting unwanted conditions in this area through lower cost, non-surgical methods.
Topical FormulasAlmost every skin care line has an eye cream in its midst! Designed to reduce conditions of the aging eye, there are some preparations that target specific imperfections more than others. The over all desired effect is to produce some tightening of the skin underneath the eye, and provide hydration to the area. To some degree under eye puffiness and dark circles may be reduced, and the skin tone can become more even.
PellevéLaunched as the next generation of skin tightening, this non-surgical treatment is especially well suited to correct imperfections such as fine lines underneath the eyes. In addition it also creates a tightening and lifting of the entire eye area.
Eyes by Thermage™By far the most effective, safe process of restoring a younger, more refreshed look to the eye, this procedure can produce remarkable improvement by tightening and lifting the skin around and on the eyelid area. This is a non-surgical treatment that involves no downtime.
The Use of Injectable FillersSmall amounts of Restylane™ or Juvéderm™ can be injected into the hollow area beneath the eye which is also called the tear trough. It can also serve to lift the eyebrows and produce an opening of the eyes when used by a skilled physician injector.
